Location: Enjoy an authentic Hornby experience in this rustic but charming cabin located just a few minutes’ walk from Grassy Point.
House Description: Mossy Rock is a sweet, simple cabin that is most suitable for couples and young families looking to experience the beauty and tranquility of Hornby’s natural environment, while living lightly on the land.
The cabin is open plan with a cooking/eating area, living and sleeping areas. In the living area, floor to ceiling windows look out onto the partly grassy, partly treed half-acre lot. There is a brand new outhouse beside the cottage, one indoor washroom with a sink and seat (with a pail underneath) for middle of the night use if needed, and an outdoor shower.
The kitchen facilities are simple and include: a full-size sink, table and chairs for four, a small fridge, coffee maker, two convection hot plates, a toaster oven, a kettle, and a toaster. Pots and pans, cooking utensils, dinnerware, glassware and cutlery are also provided.
The cabin has electricity and hot and cold running water, a BBQ, a selection of board games and books, a picnic table and a mossy rock (of course!)
Water: The water provided to the cabin is collected from a rainwater catchment system and stored in a cistern. Therefore, extreme water conservation is necessary. The water is good for cooking, washing dishes, bathing etc. For drinking you will be supplied with five gallons of water. The water container can be refilled from the Co-op Gas Bar or Ford’s Cove dispenser (for a small charge).
Linens: In line with the water conservation efforts on the island, the guests are required to bring their own sheets, pillowcases, towels, and dishcloths. Comforters and pillows are provided.
Garbage and Recycling: As part of the Hornby Island experience you will be required to visit the Hornby Island Recycling Centre and dispose of your own garbage and recycling before the end of your stay. Refundable bottles and cans can be donated to the Hornby Island Preschool which uses the funds to support their programs.
